Baltimore is for Artists

Rob Lee from the mighty, MTR Podcasts, is here to highlight Baltimore artists.

This podcast is an opportunity to authentically highlight Baltimore artists – getting to the truth in this art.

In this inaugural episode, Rob Lee welcomes, DJ James Nasty – Dr. Nasty or Mr. Nasty if you’re nasty – to the studio for an interview.  This podcast is not a typical – tell me about your art, your process and so on – those types of interviews can be interesting but they’re soft. This interview is not that.

Give the DJ Some

DJ James Nasty is a club music producer/DJ from Baltimore, Maryland and he makes sauce! He makes his own hot sauce. DJ James Nasty has been in Baltimore for over 20 years and is ingrained in the fabric of the Baltimore music scene. James gets it – he’s a true local artist. He’s a real DJ and producer.

In the interview, James breaks down his days to day life. James covers his early morning periods of inspiration, prioritizing producing beats and making sauce and his experiences in the music business. In addition, James discusses his feelings on embracing one’s art while being business-minded. Also, James breaks down the predatory nature of the music business and the multitude of ways artists can make money, how the music scene in Baltimore tends to rebel against structure and his thoughts on local venues.

Later, James speaks on respecting the art of a DJ – without hating on the hustle, but the craft of becoming a DJ takes time and money. Never forget Rodney Dangerfield has a rap album.

Check out this great interview and check out DJ James Nasty in and around Baltimore and at Holy Frijoles on Sunday nights.

Also, buy a bottle of this man’s sauce.
